In a recent preprint with Bernd Sturmfels, we establish a connection between scattering equations from particle physics and likelihood equations in algebraic statistics. A 20 minute presentation is available on YouTube. The picture with the black disk is explained in the video. The blue surface represents a 2-dimensional statistical model in the 3-dimensional probability simplex. This picture was generated using Mathematica by Chiara Meroni.
